Spotted Towhee

The Spotted Towhee (Pipilo maculatus) is ubiquitous on the South Coast but found across the rest of southern BC as well. Their squawks and screams are a common sound in many southern coastal forests. They have red sides, which gave them their old common name the Rufous-sided Towhee, a black back and head, a white chest and a red eye. They nest on the ground or in low bushes.
